Sihanoukville is located on the southwest coast of Cambodia and is named after Prince Sihanouk. It is the largest seaport in Cambodia and the second-largest city in Cambodia after the capital Phnom Penh. It is currently the only special economic zone in Cambodia, and its status is similar to China’s “Shenzhen”. The seaport in Sihanoukville was built after 1950. In order to encourage investment, it was established as a duty-free port in 1998. During the war period, Sihanoukville Port was renamed Kampong Som Port, and the name of Sihanoukville Port was restored in the 1990s. Sihanouk province has good coastline resources, blue water, and white sand, quiet and pleasant. In the first nine months of 2019, Sihanoukville received 1.8 million domestic and foreign tourists, of which nearly 650,000 were foreign tourists, up more than 50 percent year on year, and more than 1.1 million were local tourists, down 5 percent from the same period last year.
